Wengraf Calls for Mandatory Vasectomies, Tubal Ligations in the Berkeley Hills

Citing heightened concerns about fire safety in her district in the Hills, CM Wengraf has called for mandatory vasectomies and tubal ligations for her constituents.

“Our evacuation routes simply cannot handle the number of residents we have now. It’s why we’re saying no to building ADUs in the middle of a housing emergency. We can’t possibly add people by having children.” she wrote in a letter to constituents.

Wengraf is the president of a regional working group called ReImagining California’s Hills (RICH). The group is developing additional fire safety controls such as bans on visitors. “In the case of a fire,” she noted, “an overnight guest is one more person to evacuate. Worse, they may have a rental car clogging narrow streets and be unfamiliar with the labyrinthine routes of egress.”

Some constituents are concerned that Wengraf’s plan is extreme, but she countered the objection: “look, we’ve asked people to manage vegetation and to reduce dependency on cars. Residents don’t want to give up parking, widen streets, or convert some to be one way. No one is budging. It’s time for more serious measures. “
