New Designation Allows Mayor to Lollygag Maskless in Nation’s Capitol
Mayor Arreguin enjoyed a welcome respite from Berkeley’s ongoing efforts to reduce the risk of COVID infection by traveling to our nation’s capitol. While Berkeley residents and businesses remain vigilient in face of ongoing COVID risk and rising infection rates by wearing masks indoors at the urging of local health leaders, elected officials in Washington DC have moved on. One official in the mayor’s delegation stated, “Look if it’s good enough for Representative Matt Gaetz, then it’s good enough for us. You know Gavin was Florida-bashing over the 4th of July, and we don’t want them to get a leg up when it comes to photo ops. Those pesky masks make it difficult to impress your constituent in your eNewsletter”

Members of the delegation indicated they believed the Beltway to be a “COVID free zone.” When we landed at DCA a staffer from Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office informed us of this new status, and we said “hallelujah”. We just figured they must have the latest technology here in our nation’s capitol. TheBunion contacted both the Berkeley and Alameda County Health Department’s and none of these officials were aware of such a status and continue to believe that the mayor’s team may have been bamboozled.
